Solid hardwood or engineered wood - which is better for an Oklahoma City home? +
It depends on your subfloor. Oklahoma swings from humid summers to dry winters, and a lot of OKC homes are built on a concrete slab. Solid hardwood cannot be nailed to a slab and is more prone to gapping and cupping through those swings, so for slab-built homes and basements we usually recommend engineered wood - a real wood top layer over a stable plywood core. If your home has a plywood subfloor and you want a floor you can refinish for decades, solid hardwood is absolutely on the table. We check your subfloor at the free in-home measure and tell you honestly which one fits.
Can you install hardwood over a concrete slab? +
Engineered hardwood, yes - it floats or glues directly over concrete once we confirm the moisture reading is in range. Solid hardwood over slab requires building up a plywood subfloor first, which adds height and cost. We measure the slab and walk you through both options before you commit.
How long does a hardwood floor installation take in OKC? +
Most single-room hardwood installs finish in a day; whole main floors typically run two to three days. Wood also needs to acclimate in your home before it goes down, so plan for a few days between delivery and install - we schedule that for you.
Is hardwood a bad idea with dogs and kids? +
Not at all, but finish matters more than species. A matte or wire-brushed finish hides scratches and paw marks far better than a high-gloss one, and harder species like hickory take more abuse. If your household is especially hard on floors, we will also show you waterproof options that look like wood so you can compare side by side.
